What is a postpartum doula?

When bringing a new member of the family home for the first time, there can be many feelings whether it’s your first child or your fifth. It is a time where not only baby needs to be nurtured, but the entire family unit. Birthing parents, partners, siblings, grandparents, even pets. That’s where a doula comes in.

In the words of Postpartum Support International, a postpartum doula “provides families information and support on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from childbirth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents”.

As a postpartum doula, I am here to support you in those first tender few weeks. I not only provide education and support with feeding and nurturing baby, but I also am there to care for the entire family unit. I have specialized training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, which do not only affect the birthing parent. I also specialize in supporting the optimal emotional wellbeing of older siblings, allowing them to integrate the newest member of the family in the healthiest way possible.
